"thinspiration" and it's even more corrosive cousin "pro-ana" exist in abundance on LJ and to a much smaller extent here on DW as well. I find the whole thing unbearably tragic.

One of the more problematic aspects of the idea is that they come at it from both ends. On the one side, there are aspirational images and texts and so on (many of which are, to me, kind of alarming). But on the other hand, there are scare tactic images and texts and so on. And I've not only seen plenty of both, but I've seen images of myself *used* for the latter.
I'd heard the word, but pinterest is all pictures. I think it's past problematic and straight into appalling, from both sides, especially the part where they use other people's photos without permission, which is... really cruel.
... and I find it vaguely amusing that until reading the comments I thought you were making a - or talking about someone else's - snide remark about how some people's inspiration appears to have worn thin...
