We're home. The whole hospital thing couldn't have been nicer without, like, maid service and a bedside hot tub, but we are nonetheless shattered.

Astrid will be fine; she has tonsillitis which is obstructing her airway, but we have 7 or 8 more days of a 10-day course of antibiotics to give her which will help with that. Her breathing is laboured but not alarmingly so. She's exhausted, though - she was so tired earlier she fell over in her own living room and bopped her face on a chair, so we have to give her the meds on one side of her mouth only.

Giving the meds is a two-person job; one to hold her down, and the other to administer the 5ml dose in 0.5 ml minidoses. Rob has to leave early tomorrow to collect the girls from the last day of their holiday, and every other day this week he has to leave even earlier for work, so we'll be waking Astrid before 6am to drug her up, I think. She's had 3 of 4 doses today so far.

Oxygen monitors are a bit brilliant, aren't they? I was able to sleep beautifully once I didn't have to sit up over her making sure she was breathing by, like, looking.

We popped back to the hospital, to the out of hours GP service, and Astrid got more steroids. So now we're sitting up watching her breathe again. The steroids definitely help; it remains to be seen whether they help enough.

If they don't, it's back into hospital (boo) where we have an oxygen monitor (yay).

Currently, she's doing the chest wall indrawing thing, but not severely. We're pretty familiar with intercostal muscles now, I think.
