Summing up
Dec. 29th, 2011 10:37 pmChristmas was lovely, except for missing Farmor and Grandad, who very kindly didn't bring us all an upper respiratory tract infection to go with the sackful of gifts in the attic. We're hoping to see them soon, so we're holding off on opening those gifts.
I got to spend an unusual amount of time with my mother this visit; she was here a week, but she slept well every night and was well enough to go out a good deal, and Rob had an unusual amount of time off, so she and I did a lot of the last minute shopping together.
The children were delighted with their stockings and Santa presents, and with their under-the-tree presents from us (chosen by me, because presents are my job, really), and with the vast mound of things from friends and family. Astrid wasn't sure of it all because her older sisters, especially Emer, kept trying to help her while she was still getting used to ideas such as "look inside the stocking? why?" but it was nice.
Rob cooked the WHOLE dinner alone, except the breadsauce and prepping the sprouts, and it was delicious. Oh, I think I may have glazed the ham, too. But he did the potatoes and the turkey and laid the table and all that. We all forgot to have a starter, but since we couldn't finish all the food anyway that was ok. I made the trifle, with mum and Emer's help.
Mum and I went out to the sales and I got a new coat. My perfectly good expensive coat that I ought to be wearing is a size eight, and I'm not, anymore. My new coat is a size 20, but that's because Rocha John Rocha has trouble with numeracy or something (srsly, Rocha John Rocha, like Bond, and malfunctioning hanging it up loops with his name on them, what?!) and in all the other brands I tried I needed a 16, to accommodate big jumpers and so on.
It's long and has pockets in good places and a hood and will keep me warm and snug, and it's not navy blue or black or lime green.
At some point Astrid fell downstairs and cut the inside of her lip and grazed her chin. she bled a lot but was fine. The next day she leaned out over the arm of the sofa and cut her cheek on something when gravity took over. I hope she gets used to her new size soon. She needs new shoes, but I don't want to go shoe shopping until the kids are back at school.
Astrid is talking up a storm. She says yes, no, Nana (means several things), Mama, Dada, drink, more, no[se], ma[outh], be[d], ba[th], [dri]nk, bow[l], lots of things.
I'm about a month behind on email and LJ and things.
