A little better
May. 21st, 2008 10:22 amEmer and I woke up ok, I put on a load of laundry, Emer had a go on the swing, and I hung two wet loads which were waiting, and partway through that Emer started crying. It escalated into yelling and screaming, and lasted 45 minutes. During that time Linnea deliberately wet her pants and then ran into the carpeted area of the house on purpose to defy me. Defiance is something I am in general ok with but this wasn't funny. She chose to do it because I was sitting with Emer who was miserable and Linnea felt this made me unable to discipline her.
She was wrong, but Emer was the one who paid the price.
If anyone else screams at me today I will bite their bottoms.

And better and better
May. 21st, 2008 02:14 pmThree loads of laundry later, I have given both children a bubble bath, which seems to have restored equilibrium. They are now tucked up under blankets.
It's convalescence. I have no idea why they are so horrible when they start to feel better, but they are.
What I need now is some motivation; I still haven't cleaned the kitchen or made bread, though the number of times I've cleaned the bathroom today ought to count for something, I feel, but the kitchen disagrees; I also need to work out a meal plan for the next however many days we have food in the house for, buy some birthday presents, and assemble parcels for posting.
And I am going to glare at the tickle in my throat and the redness at my tonsils until they go away. I've had this bug, I was convalescing while everyone else was really sick with it, go away.

May. 21st, 2008 02:39 pmThere are three rules for writing the novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.
W. Somerset Maugham (1874 - 1965)
Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.
Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965)
The act of nutrition is not a purely physiological event... The family meal is a formality that cultivates in us... a capacity for sharing, generosity, thoughtfulness, a talent for civilized conversation.
Francine Du Plessix Gray
The most important thing she'd learned over the years was that there was no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.
Jill Churchill, O Magazine, May 2003
Never read a book through merely because you have begun it.
John Witherspoon (1723 - 1794)
