... or something.

Linnea can wipe her little table thoroughly, gathering the crumbs into her hand at the edge of the table, depositing them carefully somewhere. She does a really good job.

Our mortgage has moved! I am so happy. Also, we received post, early this afternoon. First in over a week. Yay! Now I am ready to write Christmas cards.

But I'm not doing that until AFTER the Hallowe'en party.

I made another four-seed bread today; we've already eaten half of it. We may be in London tomorrow, but we're not sure. And on Sunday we're talking to people about solar water heating.

I'm really getting excited about this. We've moved almost all our finances - certainly the parts generating most profit for the banks - to a bank with a real code of ethics. We eat almost entirely fair traded organic goods, usually locally produced. That's extra true of our meat-eating. We recycle what we can easily - we don't go to extra effort for that, unless taking waxed paper to the market and glass to the bottle bank counts as extra effort. We still haven't got a car. Most of our station'ry is recycled and things like cards are almost all UNICEF. Most of our furniture is second-hand. We almost never bin reusable items because we have freecycle. And now there's a chance - only a chance, but a chance is good - that we'll have solar heating, too. A lot depends on their finance options. Unlike everything else we do, we're unlikely to save money on the heating in the short term.

But I'm so happy. I may not be living up to my ideals, but I can see them clearly from where I stand. That feels good.

I think I will start reselling gender-neutral children's clothes on Ebay. You know, plain coloured tshirts without offensive slogans, jeans, knit cotton trousers, that sort of thing, with stripes and spots and so on but no slogans or sequins or teeny tiny military logos. And during a discussion with Radz today we came up with some slogans of our own; "When I grow up, my parents want me to be stupid, violent, and pretty!" and "Shopaholic Thug In Training."

I'm so glad Linnea has enough handmedowns I don't have to buy anything for ages.
