Do not lie quietly on the patient bed
It is not wise to let them see you weep
You should be strong long past when you're dry-bled

If it's not clear, it is all in your head
It's fair to say that most problems will keep
Do not lie quietly on the patient bed

An ambulance most wastefully was sped
You should have known that what you sow you reap -
You should be strong long past when you're dry-bled

There is no-one to listen, no-one has said
The woman on the bed is not a sheep
Do not lie quietly on the patient bed

The weaker and more frail you fade to red
The more they do things to you in your sleep
You should be strong long past when you're dry-bled

If it is not to be "all in your head"
If they are going to listen when you weep
Do not lie quietly on the patient bed
You should be strong long past when you're dry-bled

Those of you worried about last night's pome - no, nothing new has happened, it's me harping on about the same ole same ole.

The phonecall

Last weekend, while Rob was away, I got a phonecall.

"Is that Mrs Collier?"
"That's not my name, but that's me." (I assumed it was a salesperson).
"This is the Police Emergency Department."
"*choking noise*"
"Are you at [address]?"
"Yes, yes."
"We've received a call -"
"Uh - " (I was thinking "Is Rob OK?" but I don't know whether I said it aloud)
" - from this number."
"Oh, thank goodness."
"Did anyone dial 999?"
"No?"
"Do you have a small child in the house?"
"Oh gosh. It was the baby. Oh thank god. It was only the baby. Oh gosh."

I don't remember how the call ended.

The Dreams

I have dreamed recently that I left my rucksack behind the last time I travelled home from Ireland. And last night I dreamed that I had left it behind in the UK this time, and arrived in Dublin without it. I was travelling with Linnea, or sometimes with my sister Niamh, in her younger, whinier days, and she was ill, to boot. I had to conceal the panic of having lost the rucksack and manage the trip without the essentials it contained and I didn't have time to go shopping to replace the stuff.

Most irritating. Especially given that http://www.ecobaby.ie/ have failed to deliver the nappies to my mother's house - I ordered on Monday, was told they'd arrive on Wednesday at the latest, and they are Still Not There. Current plan is to order some to be delivered to Radegund's house for my arrival, since they claim next-day delivery is easy, and then I'll have to schlep a cubic metre of nappies across Ireland too. Bah.

The New Word

Waab!

This is an effective parent-summoning word. She started it last night, or maybe the night before, because she was on my lap and heard me call Rob! long and loud to rescue me from whatever painful indignity she was inflicting on me.

It's really very, very funny.

She has other new words too, but I forget what they are - far more ordinary things, like Buttings and Wun! Wun! and stuff.

The Trip

I will arrive in Dublin late tomorrow night and leave early Tuesday morning. However, I might be able to meet people on the way back, as I will arrive in Dublin in the late afternoon on the 25th, at Heuston Station. I'm looking forward to trying the Luas.
