I have made pancake batter according to Ingvar's recipe.

Ingvar's Prime Pancakes: 2 eggs, 3 dl flour, 5 dl milk.

I made 3 times that much, and have left it in the fridge to settle for this evening's pancake party. The guest of honour can't show up, but some other people are, so we'll manage somehow (Deora móra och ochón).

You know, I tend to think of people in their late teens as being pretty grown up, mostly. But I've been looking at the dates. People born in the 80s are adults now! People born in the mid-eighties are old enough to smoke and have sex! People born in the late eighties are famous teen filmstars!

*Whimper*.

I am thinking a lot about my job interview with Waterstones bookshop tomorrow morning.

I'm told they'll ask what I'm reading, what my favourite book is, and some other stuff. I don't know what the other stuff is, but I've also been told that having worked in publishing and knowing about orders, returns and so on will be useful to me. I don't know that I am the kind of person who can identify books by being told "It's got a red cover and there was an article about it in the Daily Mail two weeks ago", but that might be because I have never read the Daily Mail.

My favourite book:

  • The Bone People, Keri Hulme
  • Lotta, Astrid Lindgren
  • Friday's Child, Georgette Heyer
  • The Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis
  • The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Tolkein
  • The Dido Twite books, Joan Aitken
  • The Kevin and Sadie and the Maggie books, Joan Lingard
  • The Seek the Fair Land trilogy, Walter Macken

Current reading:

  • The Honorary Consul, Graham Greene
  • A Civil Contract, Georgette Heyer (left it in my OU tutor's car and Waterstones don't have another copy! Argh!)
  • A collection of essays, title unknown, by Isaac Asimov
