Where did the time go?

Astrid is 20 weeks on Friday. She's doing lots of excellent stuff but not in a scary way - can sit briefly, but wobbles; moves around a lot when you put her on her back on the floor; turns pages in books and then EATS THEM; recognises a few words; babbles and coos and squeaks.

Things I'm glad she doesn't do include:

self-feeding with a spoon
rolling over both ways
crawling up stairs
crawling on the flat
reproduce a tune

Linnea has flipped over into being a reader, which is much easier on me than the reading-constantly-and-denying-it thing.

Girls are always more advanced than boys! thyme_slimy says it's noticeable at the various mums' groups she goes to that the girls are several weeks ahead of the boys in their social and motor skills; the boys, however, tend to be larger! James is better at picking up and enjoying his toys than his mother thinks he is; he has just started to lean forwards and support himself for a moment or two when propped up in a sitting position. Ideally on someone's lap, so he has lateral support!

Linnea was just plain scary (and biggest); Emer and Astrid are much easier to cope with.

It's an incredibly steep learning curve with one's first child; I'm told the 2nd and 3rd are a lot easier.

I think Linnea would have been more difficult as a second child than as a first, really; if we'd had any first-hand experience of normal development in the first 4 months we'd have had screaming heebie-jeebies.

You mean, as she was you first you just assumed it was normal? I do take your point....

No, we knew it wasn't normal, but we didn't realise HOW far from normal - we thought she was just pretty advanced.

When DO kids learn to reproduce a tune? Izzie's version of singing is 'Woa oa woa' and tune is random.

Not when Linnea did. (She's almost totally tuneless now, HAHAHAHAHAHA! take that, scary development!)
