Fwiw, P works for the same place & has always been able to take short-notice leave or work from home when that's been necessary - in our case dog-related or ill-grownup-related,, so they ought to be even more reasonable about child-care stuff. It prob depends a bit on manager and exact job (eg on call issues), though.
