I installed an app on my phone which tracks my movement. I lay the phone on the mattress between me and the wall, and it records my level of movement and noise, and turns that into an idea of how deeply I am asleep. It uses this to wake me during periods of increased movement and lighter sleep, so the alarm isn't as disturbing and I wake feeling more awake.

It seems to work.

I used to use that app and I liked it. I've just had the CRAZY idea of re-installing it and putting it in Leo's bed (taped to the mattress or something) to see if that's interesting at all.

Oh, that's interesting - what is the name of the app?

I looked into sleep-tracking apps a year or so ago, but they were dreadful - the one I had recommended to me basically assumed that when your phone was turned off, you were asleep. Which is useless - particularly since I don't turn my phone off at night. I'd heard there were cleverer apps, but mostly from people who said they didn't work well...

Excellent, thank you. I shall give that a try (if my poor old phone, which is struggling a bit with reality, can find space to run it).

Sounds like an interesting - and very useful - idea!
