it's one of the most frightening things I've ever read.

Thanks for the link. I read her old blog with horrified fascination after you posted about it ages ago. For me it's all far too close to home as I was home schooled (and physically abused) by ultra-religious American fundamentalist parents.

I'm GLAD your intervention made her decide to delete her other blog. It's good for her to hear voices telling her that what she's doing is not acceptable. Even if she believes those voices come from Satan.

O secular world, how gentle you are compared to the prison I grew up in.

Just somewhat appalled? ;-)

How can anyone see everything in such overwhelming black and white? I fear for her children but certainly not for the same reasons she does.

That's what I wanted to say; omit the somewhat and just be appalled!

(but I assume it's British, or in this case Irish, understatement)

I opened the link in another tab, went away, did other stuff, and forgot about, came back and read it, and was totally baffled as to why I had that stuff in my browser window.

Though I have to say I agree with the pirate stuff. That's never made me comfortable.

I am now impishly tempted to conduct a day's teaching according to her godly principles. That would be a fun project, though I would probably get the sack...

Thankfully, not all Christians - not even all American ones - are like that!

What really scares me is that 25 years ago I'd have been all over her like a cheap suit! I just thank God, literally, that I was saved from all that!

The part that appalls me most is her repeated use of the word "training". Isn't that what you do to pets? You "teach" or "guide" or "educate" or "help" children, but you "train" a dog.
