Bad dreams

We had a difficult evening last night after the children were in bed. And Emer woke at 5 am with a bad dream.

Later I found out what the dream was. I was in it, and her, and some people who were bad people. She was holding my hand, and I was holding her hand, but someone got her anyway.

I feel sick.

You know, if the scariest thing Emer's subconscious can think of is nameless faceless bad people, and she knows that holding your hand is the best way to stay safe from them, this is you doing a good job. A great job, in fact. You can't protect your kids from nightmares, but nightmares tell you a lot about how safe your kids' lives really are.

But I know it's not just about that, so have a hug.

The horrible thing is that it didn't work; it's supposed to. But yes, I suppose it does demonstrate that her life just isn't scary. And thanks.

I was a bit upset this morning. I was helping at Reading Morning in Holly's class (30 mins of reading books with parents) & a boy came in late. He sat with me in my group & after a bit, he told me he'd had a bad dream that he couldn't find his mum. I reassured him that it was just a dream & said he could tell me if anything was worrying him, but he said he was ok. I don't actually know him at all, but he didn't seem happy :(

My mum in her sixties has just had a dream that upset her about losing me to bad people while holding my hand, me in my thirties.
