Today was freezing cold, so I put on my (28) 1x lovely warm stripey coat and headed in to town. On the way I popped into Moondogs because we owed them £2 and (29) Craig stood me a coffee. Well, I sat down for it, and read a bit of a newspaper, but I found it very frustrating. I don't like newspapers. So I headed on into town and had a look for Rob's Christmas present, which I've been trying to buy online from persistently broken websites, and succeeded in buying (30) a great birthday present for Linnea's friend Louis, whom she intends to marry when she's a grown-up firefighter. I also scored (31) two pairs of warm black mostly-cotton tights, to wear under my trousers. I'll stick with thermal long johns and kneesocks under skirts, I think. Then I tried to buy a coat for Linnea, failed, but managed some warm trousers for Emer, so that's ok. On the way home I popped in to the Polish deli and bought (32) 2 kinds of bread, one fresh, one factory. When I got home the plumber had arrived to fix the boiler, and was just filling in his paperwork and taking payment, so we had (33) fault diagnosis, boiler repair and later fault prevention which included free bonus Good Emergency Plumber Discovery. I ate half a pack of TUC crackers and the children and I headed to the (34) birthday party bang on time, where the kids played and I was plied with tea and wine. There was also a lot of food, every single bit of it checked by the hosts for milk content, so I could say to Linnea "You can eat anything from the table." That doesn't happen very much.

We left the birthday party slightly earlier than everyone else because (35) my friend Ellie, with whom I used to work, was coming! She came home from the US for Christmas and was in Reading today driving her brother to his flat. Rob had made (36) a delicious spaghetti bolognese, and we had the fresh bread, and were too full for dessert but did have tea. After she left the children had a bath and I (37) ordered Rob's Christmas gift, because the website I most wanted to use was miraculously back online. Then I (38) sorted out three notebooks of to do lists into one, caught up on LJ and found that (39) two friends are back from civilmoon and appearing online for my amusement and edification again, and had my very own (40) hot hot bath.

I envy you (31). Two pairs of cotton tights that fit me properly, for wearing under my trousers are currently at the top of my clothes shopping list (next are thermal sock liners and then wellington boots). My various pairs of thermal long johns are fine and very warm for going outside in frigid temperatures, but not comfortable enough to wear around the house all day.

My problem(s) with trying to buy wellies so far has been: Men's sizes don't fit me. Children's sizes fit me, but are cheaply made and have no arch support. Women's fit and are well made but come in 'designer' (i.e. silly) colours & patterns (pink paisley wellies?) and are horrendously expensive. I have yet to find the shop where the local female farmers buy their work clothes. There must be one, but it's probably disguised as a lumber yard or something, so I haven't found it yet.

"TUC crackers" threw me a bit. Over here TUC stands for Trade Union Council. I don't think they sell crackers.
