I'm taking Emer in a week, because today I got a good look at her molars and they look worse than they did a month ago. We're going to the Other Dentist, as private patients, and I have an agreement from the dentist that she will examine every tooth even if Emer is crying and I have to hold her down. The last two appointments Emer had, they looked at her front teeth and Linnea's full set, and said they must be good because Linnea's are gorgeous and all of Emer's teeth visible without serious effort are gorgeous. I described the patches as best I could and was told that it sounded like antenatal damage from a fever.

But I got a good look today and they're not funny. I had Rob look at the worst two, too, this evening, and he agrees that it looks quite bad.

I feel terrible. But given that her teeth might be in trouble, it's far far better to go and force her through it now than risk bad baby teeth damaging the buds of her adult teeth, and of course it's better to take her to the dentist than to refrain from shame.

I heard a cat growling, and had a look behind the thing he was growling at, and saw a mouse - I thought - and called Rob to deal with it, and we talked about what to do, and he figured catching it in a flexible bucket would be easiest, and he threw the cats out the back and locked the catflap, and he caught the mouse, and threw it out the front (so it wouldn't be immediately brought back in) and then I started to wonder whether it wasn't a little large for a mouse, and I looked at Wikipedia, and now I don't know whether it was a fairly young rat or a large mouse. Brown. Tail. Didn't see its teeth, which is how I usually tell.

Urgh.

Ask me a question or give me a topic that isn't about my children or parenting, and I will write you a post in which I pretend to be an interesting and well-rounded person.

I'm not sure I can do this, because it seems to me that everything in my life relates to ethical consumerism, children, and feminism, all linked in together, but I'll try! I think as long as I don't mention how things are directly related to my children or parenting I might get away with it.

Challenge me.
