Broken promises
Aug. 7th, 2008 11:34 pmMary couldn't come today.
Yesterday I changed Linnea's plans first thing, and made up for it later; today I wasn't able to make up for it later. My track record, at this point, looks poor.
On the other hand, she has finally shown some small interest in writing (I am trying not to let her see how exciting I think this is) and her first work is a card for a friend. She made the card with glue and glitter and a small, almost insignificant amount of card, put it in an envelope, and then copied FREYA - to address it. Then I put a postal address on it and she wrote LIMMEA. Then she took it away upstairs, away from my fair copy sheet, and when she came down it had some more information - for the postman.
LIMMEA41 (we live at number 14, you see) and P LIMMEA PF41 (that's our house number again and something "so that Freya knows it's special.")
Then she drew and signed a card for my mother. The picture is of a schoolboy at a desk, and a troll, and the sunshine. The troll has a pocket on its front with two knives and forks in it. The boy has pens and paper on his desk. The card is signed LIMMEA again.
It needs to zigzag, you see, and she's not sure where it stops. Some of the N/Ms actually have three arches, which is a charming letter but not one I recognise.
I haven't made her any promises for tomorrow. But Rob has made a carrot cake. I think that's a good substitute for a promise.
In fact, as of right now this minute, tomorrow has been entirely cleared of plans. Entirely. I'm slightly worried that this means there's something I forgot to write down, but I don't mind all that much, really.
