Welcome to the world, baby girl!
Jan. 18th, 2006 06:30 pmBaby's Iz's mother is a very accomplished giver of birth. She went to hospital at 6:30, and had delivered with minimal tearing at 10:03. New baby is 7lb 9oz and extraordinarily beautiful.
Baby's Iz's father came at about 3:30 to collect EVERYONE in their seven-seater car to go and admire the new baby and tell the new mother how fabulous she was. I felt immensely privileged to be allowed to see them only 6 hours after the birth. Mum looked fabulous and radiant and ecstatic and not exhausted at all. Baby was feeding like a champ (WIDE open mouth, munch munch, clever baby!) and incredibly beautiful. Linnea could have been that beautiful if she hadn't had such dry skin that looked scaly, but the new baby is just perfect.
We all went home. Rob and I offered to go home with Linnea on the bus, but they refused, so we all got into the seven-seater. The two toddler seats have to go in the three-seater middle row, leaving the back row for the baby seat. Mum wanted to travel with her new baby, so she insisted on going in the very back row too. Because the toddler seats were already fitted, this meant climbing over the back of the seats through the boot/trunk hatch. Post-delivery hormones may have had something to do with it, but this woman was definitely healthy after her birth experience. Wow.
When we got home, Rob collected dinner from our house (sausage casserole in the slow cooker) and we ate in their house. Then we drank tea and sat around all being wired and excited for a bit, and then came home and collapsed ded. Rob and I had had less than 5 hours' sleep the night before, and Linnea had had less than 7 in 24 hours.
It was a wonderful experience. I went to the hospital where I delivered, and although it is true that I was in the postnatal care ward where nothing dreadful happened to me, it was not traumatic or upsetting. It was positive and cheering. It's a pleasantly decorated, friendly environment, and the birth was clearly delightful and rewarding for everyone. I expect this has been a very healing experience for me.
Linnea, on the other hand, had nightmares repeatedly last night; I was in her bed with her from 3 am to 10 am. I can't help but wonder if she was upset by the new baby and the fact that Iz's mummy isn't just Iz's mummy any more? Or it could have been something entirely different. No idea what though.
I got an hour's nap this afternoon while Rob was out buying baklava. I feel much better for it. And we had takeaway biryani for dinner, since we were planning to have leftover casserole only we fed it to the new parents yesterday.
Hurrah for babies!
