Getting knitty with it
Sep. 21st, 2005 03:30 pmThose of you who have been knitting since the early days of Now All-New, All-Trendy Knitting - or even earlier than that - will no doubt already have discovered this, but it's new to me and it's changing my life.
When knitting with two colours, put each ball of yarn in a small plastic bag within the knitting bag, so they don't tangle together and the correct one unrolls tidily when tugged.
Linnea's winter coat is begun. Stocking stitch, 3 ply acrylic on 3mm needles, to be lined with polyester fleece. This ought to be washable and warm and fairly Linnea-proof, I think. I hope. It's planning to be red and yellow stripes, if the yarn holds out. Other colours if it doesn't. The original patches plan didn't work as it was too fiddly and I started to dread the sewing.
3 inches done. Another 10 or so to do - and then the front and sleeves... but they're going to be smaller.
Oh - I have no pattern. I'm planning on using the "all clothing is rectangular" method of creation. Anyone want to place bets on whether I'm going to finish the project?
Fear of the Dark
Sep. 21st, 2005 03:50 pmLinnea woke us scremaing again last night. The first time woke me and Rob; he brought her into our bed and I'm not at all sure she woke up. The other times I know she didn't wake - and nor did he - and she cried out and wriggled and would not be consoled.
It's very sad, but she woke bright-eyed and bushy-tailed so it can't be that bad for her.
Today she went down for her nap at 2-ish and is still asleep now. I've decided that messing around with her sleep times causes more trouble than it's worth so I'm not doing it any more. I am going to reread The No Cry Sleep Solution and work on a better going-to-sleep routine, since the one we've got is complicated and exhausting.
And I'm going to buy her a bed, because putting her down into the cot is difficult for everyone. It's a long way down indeed. So what bed, and from where, and how do I choose a mattress? She should have a very firm one, I think, since her cot mattress is very firm and she sleeps well on floors.
Saturday Afternoon
Sep. 21st, 2005 06:15 pmRob, Linnea and I will be in London on Saturday morning, attending a Swedish lesson, and could stay there all day if anyone wanted to meet up. Linnea will nap, given the opportunity, from about 1-3 or 2-4, probably - 2-3 is almost certain - so we don't have to spend the whole time somewhere child-friendly. Most places are child-friendly, anyway, and we're bringing her portable easel and a barrel of toys to keep her amused during the lesson, so she'll still have those. A park would be ideal, come to think of it. Perhaps we should go to the zoo?
