Linnea and I did the housework, as usual, and settled down with our snack to watch Teletubbies at 10:00. I intended to take her swimming and then to the NCT coffee afternoon.

But at about 10:10 the Patient Advice and Liaison Services called, and because Linnea was in front of the TV, I spent 45 minutes talking about the labour, birth and its aftermath. And now I'm low.

Linnea is napping. In total she watched 2 hours' TV and then we played and had lunch for two hours. I spent the rest of her TV time online talking to people until I stopped crying and shaking and generally wanting to curl into a ball and never come out.

The nappy bucket is almost full. She's very productive today. We had a great time doing the washing up and hanging laundry earlier, and she was very brave about the hoover. She's also very cuddly and keen on putting nappies on her teddies. And I almost slapped her when she ran away mid-nappy-change. I didn't slap her, of course, I just almost did.

I am fragile today. I hope she manages a good long nap. She's on a quilt on the floor in the library, with the curtains closed.

A friend came over with chocolate, and Rob came home, fed Linnea, and went to the playground, so I am here with whisky and some time to myself. I am growing less despondent.

Whisky and soda.

After Linnea's long, luxuriant nap, we painted with red poster paints in the garden. And washed our hands with bubbly soap. And Linnea cuddled our infant visitor and fed her raisins.

Soon I will be calm enough to eat dinner.
