A Night Not To Remember

>

Last night, Linnea woke shortly before three. She needed a nappy change (note to self: A lone Tots Bots is not adequate for night-time use) and a couple of hours of playtime. Sometime after five, we got her to sleep again, and then were woken before 5:30 by the distinctive and alarming sound of a cat being sick. I stayed in bed "sleep-breathing" for Linnea, whispering instructions on how to clean it up to Rob.

This Morning Was Broken

The porridge boiled over, there was a Huge Poo Incident, Linnea was furious that she'd slept past her breakfast-time.

I stuck her inside the hug-a-bub for a cuddly carry and a friend came over for lunch. Except that she heard my tale of woe and we went out to lunch.

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Heads: I got new glasses. The exam was fine, the glasses are fine, as usual I was dealt with by a series of trainees who didn't know what they were doing (except for the exam) and I came out with glasses almost identical to my last pair, only without the scratch-proof coating (it wasn't Linnea-proof and they refused to mend them when I went in) and without the ultra-light lenses (I only had them for the coating).

I am to practice using them for everything - reading and all. If I can manage this I can investigate contact lenses next time.

Shoulders: The nappy bag is getting lighter all the time. Now that she eats sandwiches instead of jars, and now that we usually only need two nappies per outing rather than three, I can actually use my shoulder-bag. It says "Actually, I wasn't planning to wean" like Linnea's tshirt. In much smaller letters.

Knees: I got kicked today during a get-into-the-buggy incident, or possibly a walk-then-if-you-won't-ride incident, or maybe a you-can't-walk-without-shoes incident. In the soft spot below my kneecap. It hurts like crazy, especially if I attempt to kneel. Her unusually large for her age feet have a peculiarly pointed toe.

Toes: I have more new shoes. Now I have two pairs of shoes that fit! And some reason to bark angrily at the universe; you may remember that some time ago I was hankering after a pair of red shoes just like Glitzfrau's but they were nowhere to be found, even on the Clarks website? Well, they've reached England. They've reached Read ing. They've reached my local branch of Schuh.

I was very good and didn't cry. Instead, I went to Shoon (ex Feet Inc, ex The Ecco Shop, three names, one decorating job, one set of staff) and bought red polish for the shoes I did buy way back then, and a new pair of different DMs in brown, with a little pattern on them.

(I also accidentally bought Linnea some funky orange stripy things in H&M, and a beady necklace thing for myself).

And to top it all off: mozilla crashed and I regained this precious text by making Rob dump a copy of the physical memory to a file, then I extracted all the text, and manually sorted through 38MB of junk to find these precious few words. I cheated by grepping for HTML tags.
