Jun. 4th, 2003 11:59 pmWe planned to wake early today, to go and visit the beach just after dawn, but it didn't happen. I woke seriously early and promptly went to sleep again, without so much as opening my eyes, and when Janice woke she decided I was sleeping too much to be woken. When I did wake, Janice very kindly made me tea. I find it very hard to funciton without tea.
We went to the beach, after breakfast, armed with the small camping stove. First we walked around town a little, looking at the shops. Why do seaside towns here have such great purple-things shops? I need to go live in one. We also found an organic grocers, and bought peppermint tea and nibbles.
It started to drizzle while we were sitting on the beach, so we went for a walk through the Dorset Country Park and found the ledges and caves Alan (Rob's dad) used to play in as a young man and the lighthouse he enthused about recently. Alan and Inger (Rob's mother) met in Swanage. We walked along the restored wooden pier (you can help by sponsoring a plank and they'll give you an engraved bronze plaque to stick on it) and through a gorgeous amphitheatre and along a coastal pasth and through a suburb (the coastal path had fallen into the sea) and through a wood. There were a large number of benches and plenty of signs and a good-for-kids visitor's centre which was moderately good for adults, too.
We had dinner in a fish restaurant (yay unadulterated mackerel) and my sister called to ask me to sort out accommodation for two or three of my sisters.
Then we went for a drink and then we went to bed.
