Selling on Ebay

I have finally given in and joined the dark side; I am experimenting with selling our coffee table on Ebay. I have no idea how this will work, but a lot of people like Ebay so it's worth a try. It won't cost all that much if it's a dismal failure. I suspect "buyer collects" is a huge turnoff.

I presume the zero feedback and the "new ID" icon may also deter some purchasers.

You have to start somewhere though :) I've always done very well & I started from scratch about 18 months ago.

Oh, of course.

It just makes it a little more difficult.

It also depends, to some extent, what you want to sell when you're starting out (and what they cost).

I'm about to dip my toes into ebay selling as well. I'm hoping to list later this week. Good luck!

I sold a chaise longue within hours using "buyer collects." The buyer thought it was such a good deal that she sent her children all the way up from Southern California (six hour trip) to pick it up.

Tips for the future, assuming your main goal is to get rid of it rather than to make the absolute most money you can: use a "buy it now" price that's a fair chunk lower than retail (almost everything I sell is sold using "buy it now"), and don't use a reserve (it annoys a lot of people), or if you must use a reserve, mention what the reserve is in your description.

Good luck!

Been idly thinking about doing similar for the past couple of months. Suggest you do a bit of research first and take a look at the UK ebay newsgroup [uk.people.consumers.ebay](seems to be fairly friendly if a little cliquey) and also take a butchers at the (newly-created) FAQ, hosted at http://www.upce.org.uk/

Doing a bit of buying of low-cost items to build your feedback isn't going to hurt either, especially if you want to sell. Recipes for pennies are the way to go, I understand.

HTH.
