Buggies and Books

The first actual meeting of the book club was today; there were three people there other than myself and the parent who owns and runs the Workhouse Coffee Shop; we chose a book from my selection - Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons - and arranged to allow about a month to read each book but to meet up weekly, more or less.

No-one seemed thrilled by the idea of alternating non-fiction and fiction, to be honest, but I might suggest it again next time I'm there.

(I've also measured up the small back bedroom and I believe self and Rob could in theory move in there, freeing up the front room for guests and sitting, and later offspring. Further bulletins as events warrant.)

How are you doing the choosing of books? Our bookclub just rotates the choice through the people, and people choose fiction or non-fiction as they please. In fact, we read more non-fiction than fiction, but this way that's an emergent property...

I read Cold Comfort Farm recently, and adored it.

Yup. It's very subtle, but look for the references to what we would call a videophone.

Yes, I loved that totally mad aspect of the book! There's airship stuff as well, as far as I remember.
