Linnea is reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to herself, aloud. She's just confused herself with the repetition of "and then he ate [number] apples" etc. So we got "And then he eight nine sausages, STILL HUNGY!"

You will all be glad to hear that he "Not hungy anymore, big caterpillar, BOOTful butterfly, anymore, ahhhhhhh."

JJ's nickname is Caterpillar, because he eats so much. :)

My .sig for a while - When bedtime stories collide: on Friday [he ate] Gruffalo crumble! But he was still hungry...

I am still actively surprised when I come across under-40s who don't know this story well. As far as I'm concerned it's as much a requirement of childhood as learning to walk or talk. :D

Unsurprisingly; it wasn't written until 1999. I meant TVHC.

I think I'm missing something here, possibly because I have heard the book read so many times that I have blanked out the memory. If 'eight' and 'ate' are homonyms in your/Linnea's accent, how could you tell which one she was saying? (They're homonyms in my original accent, but in <lj user=aegidian?'s, 'ate' is pronounced 'et', and I do sometimes fall into that myself.)

Hmm. For some reason, LJ is refusing to post the end of that comment. It should read "... but in [livejournal.com profile] aegidian's, 'ate' is pronounced 'et', and I sometimes fall into that myself."

A few weeks ago Mitch Benn on the Now Show did a "rock musical" version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar (inspired by War of the Worlds). It was about 2 minutes long and fabulous.

That's what I'm using as a ring tone.

But how can you bear to answer the phone and interrupt it?

I just read that book to my son last night! It'll be a bit before he's reading it on his own...he's only 3 1/2 months! (PS...followed you here from the drinking chat over on [livejournal.com profile] xiphias's journal. :-)

We read that to James as well. He's doing pretty well at turning the pages, even if it usually ends up as "And then he ate... his copy of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and farted thunderously".
