The Weather Is Coming

Today, it was overcast, with a max of 27C.

The clouds are going. It's going to be unrelieved sunshine, usually 28C, dropping no lower than 15C at night.

15C is my "comfortable room temperature". 18-20 is warm.

OK, this has happened every year since I've moved to the UK; several weeks of unbroken hot sunny weather. And the worst was Linnea's first summer, when she was too young for sunscreen and the house never got below 27C for two weeks. But this year, it's coinciding with my being 7 months pregnant.

I think we might be going out to the supermarkets a lot. They have aircon. We have lots of south-facing windows.

I have just been looking at a website that gives a 15 day forecast.
It suggests that fore Leicester the dry sunny weather will continue for another 10 days. The 11th day (June 18th) will be cloudy with a high chance of showers.
We have the whole family coming over for a barbeque on the 18th. I don't know how we'll cope if we can't use the garden.

there's a fair amount of wiggle-room towards the end of the six-seven day forecast when it comes to timing, never mind that for the fortnight; but yes, if it still looks like overcast + showers for the 18th as it gets closer, you might decide you need one or two of asda/walmart's (or anywhere else cheap's) gazebi...

We've gone almost completely nocturnal to cope with the summer. My partner has evil heyfever and asthma so we can't even enjoy the heat outside somewhere shady.

One of these days we will own our own house, and build the ducting+fans system that we have planned for equillibriating the house temperature. Our cellar is 16.5C compared to the computer room at 23.5 (with aircon running).

In June/July 2003 I went nocturnal for the same reasons. 4-8am was an exceptionally nice time to be out on the lawn reading (our living room/bedroom faces south-west) and 8-9pm was when it usually started to get bearable in the evening. 24 hour supermarkets and the internet were a godsend for getting Stuff done, and during the hottest hours I had fans running, thick curtains drawn across the windows, and no clothes on if I could help it.

smallclanger was born on the one rainy day between two bouts of heat, and was 10 days old for the 'hottest recorded day ev-uh'. He wore a nappy and a muslin for much of his first month.

I have to agree with you on the supermarkets or in fact shops in general. i am gutted that I have had to go out and buy some maternity shorts at this stage but there was no choice.
