A day in tights
Today I bought red tights and black, brown and grey tights. I don't know when I'm going to wear the brown - no suitable clothes - and I don't know whether I'll be brave enough to wear the red. I'd have preferred a three-pack of red, blue and green, and a single grey, but that's not what the great consumer pattern analysts have decided on, so there I go.
It's a big, risky decision for me; they are not cotton tights, and the red ones are very red. I'm not sure. But Linnea thinks I ought to buy a little red skirt from M&S to go with them, she thinks I'd look lovely because I have lovely legs and it would be nice and bright.
I started to want red tights when I was out with Linnea; I was wearing a bright blue dress anda red fleece, and black tights and DMs, and I wanted red tights. I want red hair too. It may be PMS. Everything since about 16 September may be PMS. I'm feeling strange and volatile.
However, I was given a bunch of skirts for free, so I'm damn well going to wear them, and that means I need tights. Perhaps closer to Christmas I'll be able to buy cotton or wool ones (there were some lovely merino ones for about a tenner a pair, in exactly the right shade of grey) but I'm fairly sure synthetics will be fine for now.
We had stew for dinner, and there's enough left for tomorrow, too. And after dinner we made cupcakes, and except for my making rather a mess of the icing process, it went really well. I feel a bit unsettled now because it turns out three iced cupcakes is one too many.
I cut both girls' nails and bathed both girls and washed Linnea's hair.
Now we need to make a menu plan and a shopping list, and tomorrow I need to phone up about Mum's appointments; I think she's coming back for 26th October or thereabouts.

I bought a couple of pair of leggings and am waiting for cooler weather here. I love tights under skirts or casual dresses or long tunics.

We saw a couple of groups of young 20-something men wearing seemingly nothing but deer hides wrapped around their waists. The whole costume thing was quite fun to see.

Holly was sensible this morning. It's a cold day & she wanted to wear a pinafore for school, so I said she needed tights, not socks. I picked out a funky green, red & white stripey pair & she said no, they weren't school tights & could she have some plain ones. *arrggh* She's been indoctrinated :(

You could totally carry tehm off, too. I wouldn't quite dare go as far as Linnea's audacious "red overload" approach, but she's got the right idea - if you wear them with some other very bright colour, it'd take the edge off the redness of the red.

For me, everything since about 16 September has been my SAD hitting hard.
Tights are great. I have several pairs each of cotton and thermal tights that I wear under my trousers in the winter when the house is cold. Thermal tights, sadly, only seem to come in white, black, and navy blue. I want purple ones! Maybe the local workman's clothing shop will eventually carry purple thermal tights. They now have pink construction hard-hats and ear-defenders, so there's some hope.
